My husband was telling me last night how he is angry and contemptuous of people who don’t want to get the vaccine. I don’t feel that way. I feel really sad and anxious for them. There’s a sort of unspoken feeling in society that has developed along with the Internet that information is and should be free. Unfortunately, a lot of the quality information, meaning journalism with multiple sources and scientific studies, is not free, or if it is free, it’s not marketed well at all. Disinformation and misinformation is plentiful and free on the Internet, though. So vaccine hesitancy and therefore the longevity of this pandemic is an indirect result of capitalism. People are making decisions based on bad information because their priorities are to spend money on food and housing rather than on good information, and I can’t really fault them for that.
