Sigh. You sure look like your trumpeting intuitive eating’s praises instead of criticizing it. Here’s the big problem I have with it, which I have commented to many people many times and which nobody has EVER addressed to my satisfaction: what if someone is taking a medication that stimulates their appetite? I’m supposed to “intuitively” know which cravings for food are from my medication and which ones are from my actual body? oh don’t worry, it’s not a very common medication… it’s just hormonal birth control, A.k.a. The Pill, aka one of the most common medication as prescribed in my country. And before someone tells me to just stop being a big old whore, get this: I’m not taking it to prevent pregnancy. I’m taking it because of the cysts and fibroids in and on my uterus because otherwise I have a huge amount of pain and extremely heavy periods. So in addition to a lifetime of diet culture, I have hormonal cravings for food. but never mind me, I’m sure there are other medication‘s that stimulate the appetite and if the advice is “just make sure you fill up on fruits and vegetables!” Then um how is that intuitive eating? Are fruits and vegetables with my body wants right now? I don’t fucking know and neither do you.
