The root of domestic violence in men is usually entitlement. They feel entitled to a woman behaving the way they want her to, and they feel entitled to hit, belittle, and otherwise hurt her if she does not behave the way they feel entitled to be treated. So the idea that someone has a “right” to have a girlfriend is a very dangerous mindset — at least for the girlfriend.
