There are more reasons not to drink than to drink, but a large part of the pull is the societal expectation. It’s like socially people need to have a reason not to drink, and I have reframed this in my life to be that I need to have a reason TO drink if I’m going to. It’s rarely worth the calories and the effect on my body to have more than one drink at an occasion, and even when I have the time and bandwidth to do that, I usually don’t. I make my money with my voice which is negatively affected by alcohol, and I don’t want the empty calories or the expense of it. However, I do ingest marijuana pretty much nightly, and sometimes I wonder if there are negative consequences to this that will catch up to me at some point.
